Time To Take Action

A friend of mine told me a story about a young man who moved to a new neighborhood. One of the first things the man noticed was the constant mournings of a whimpering whining dog. After hearing the dog whine day and night for about a week, he followed the sound and found an old man sitting on a porch with the whining dog next to him.

The Young man: ‘What’s wrong with your dog’?

The old man: ‘He is sitting on a nail’.

The young man: ‘Why is he sitting on the nail’? ‘Why doesn’t he get up’?

The old man: ‘Because it’s not hurting bad enough’.

We often complain/whine about circumstances we have the power to change; meanwhile, we sit passively doing nothing to address said situation. We know complaining is pointless, but, with so many things in life, knowing what is to be done is one thing and actually aligning our thoughts and actions to do those things is another.  The dog knew how hurtful lying on the nail was yet he chose to remain where he was. Which makes me wonder, why. Why do so many of us choose to remain lying on nails?

Beloved, I am sure that we know that it is never beneficial to complain, especially if it is in our power to change the thing that is making us uncomfortable. We know that we need to take action. We’ve heard it, thought about it, said that we would do it, but we delay aligning what we know with what we do. We delay doing what we can about our situation.

So,  instead of making a fuss, let us get up off the nails in our lives, and once and for all change the things that we have the power to change. Constantly whining and talking ill of the circumstances that surround us does nothing, and will never do anything for us. It is time to make a move, or else we will whimper and whine endlessly like the dog from the story, the decision is ours.

Philippians 4:13 I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who [a]infuses inner strength into me; I am [b]self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency].

We honestly can do ALL things through Christ, that is if we really wanted to. So why don’t we start undertaking activities that will produce change today? Why don’t we change the things that we have the resources to change?

The bottom line is, failing to take action means that we are comfortable where we are, in whatever situation that we are in; at least this is the case most of the time. It matters not how much we tell ourselves that we are not comfortable because our actions speak louder than our words.

The fact is, right now, at this very moment, we have ALL the resources that we need to effect change. All we need to do is to harness the courage within, take action, and watch God work on our behalf. Let us draw on the inner strength that God has infused in us. Failure to do so will keep us wondering about goals/dreams/ circumstances that we did nothing about.

Like the dog, we are exactly where we want to be most of the time. It, therefore, means that if we are not happy with who we are or where we are; The only person that we should be mad at is ourselves. Without a doubt we’ll figure things out when we are truly ready to. Want change? Get up now and be the change, begin to change, do something. YOU’VE GOT THIS! We would be astonished by all we would be able to accomplish with faith in God and a little faith in ourselves.

See you along the God-directed path.

Be blessed.
