I have come to the realization that the Lord often exposes the content of our hearts, to help us to see who we really are, so that we’ll allow Him to help us to become better individuals. As such, it recently dawned on me how right the bible is, when it says, the heart is deceitful above all things, who can know it- except God. Jeremiah 17:9 AMP. “The heart is deceitful above all things And it is extremely sick; Who can understand it fully and know its secret motives?” This thought came, as I pondered on the fact that I really don’t know who I am, as it relates to the contents of my heart. This was a rude awakening, as prior to this, I was sure I knew me. Questions I found myself pondering over: I am a good person, right? Right. I try to follow the Lord’s instructions, as much as I can, I hope. I don’t engage in certain activities, so I’m good, right? I should be OK, don’t you think?
But, but, however, who I thought I was is not who I really am, as per what God showed me about myself. My heart can be truly deceitful, having me believing things about myself which were not true. God has so much more work to do on me, it’s astonishing. I feel like I was at the mechanic shop, but refusing to let the mechanic do the job that needs to be done. Always dictating what I thought should be done, when I really don’t know anything about cars. What was even more astonishing is that the Lord hasn’t even shown me all that there is to be seen. He just showed me a very minute section of my heart. Let me tell you, I have a mighty long way to go.

But this is not about despair, this is about hope, there is always purpose in God’s method. There is hope in God exposing what’s in our hearts. Hope is derived from the fact that, if he exposed it, it’s His way of saying, ‘hand it over, so that I can help you with it’. He wants to fix my dysfunctionality. Additionally, when I am ‘fixed’, He’ll be able to use me to help others that are facing similar dysfunctionalities. Isn’t that beautiful? He is able to use something that was broken in me to bless others.
I will therefore continue to put my trust in Christ who is still working on me. What has the Lord shown you about yourself lately? Don’t be in despair about it. Instead let it be a source of hope. Hope that He is still working, and He wants to perfect us through Him. So if like me, you’re under construction, let us continue asking, seeking, knocking, everyday until he completely transforms our hearts. Let us continue to dwell in the secret place, until being in His presence transforms our hearts to reflect His.
Be blessed.
