My Thoughts Are Not Yours

Let us not be quick to draw the worst conclusion about what is happening in our life.

It recently clicked that how I view my circumstances and how God views them are sometimes polar opposites. I might have had an experience and, immediately, I begin to think that God is not pleased with me or that I did something wrong.  From God’s perspective, however, the experience was to make room for something greater/better or just something else.  Moreover, the circumstance might have been a tool to help me make adjustments to my character, my thinking, or my relationships; Thereby, causing me to reposition myself and be aligned with His plans and purpose for that season.

This understanding causes me to think about Isaiah 55:8-9 which states, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

A lot of times we expect God to think and act like we do,  which is what gets us in trouble a lot of times. We fail to remember that His thoughts and His ways are far beyond ours.

Our knowledge is quite limited, so we aren’t aware of what God is doing in our lives most of the time. – Although sometimes He gives us insight into a minute fraction of what is happening. On the other hand, God has infinite knowledge of everything that we face. He designed us; He sees the big picture of our lives. Whatever He allows, therefore, is based on His broader -all-knowing- perspective.

I sometimes think about the life of Joseph and all that God allowed him to face on his journey to become. Looking at the events of his life only made complete sense by looking back in time.  From a fleshly perspective someone might have thought that Joseph was being punished by God.  But, God who was working out His plan and purpose, knew differently. God was preparing Joseph to become who He destined him to be.  His ways and thoughts are not ours.

We think about our destination in a straight line, from point A to point B. On the other hand, God’s path to our destinies might look incoherent. He knows what He is doing, for that reason, we need to trust Him through the ups and downs that he takes us through to get to our destinations.

Let us not be quick to draw the worst conclusion about what is happening in our life. First, let us seek God about what He is doing in our lives so that we can align our thoughts with His. That will give us peace even in the worst of circumstances.

See you along the God-directed path.

Be blessed.
