Living Set Apart: Kingdom Living

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

From the moment we are born, we begin to be programmed into the world’s system. We are taught how to think, how to dress, and how to behave in ways deemed acceptable by society. Anything that falls outside of what is considered “normal” is often met with labels, criticism, and ridicule. But what if “normal” is not what we were created for?

Our concept of “normal” begins to shift only when we surrender our lives to Jesus, experience the new birth, and allow the Holy Spirit to transform us by renewing our minds. This renewal enables us to embrace a new way of thinking and living, aligned with the kingdom of God.

Called to a Different Kingdom

When we are born again, we become citizens of an entirely different kingdom—the kingdom of God, also known as the kingdom of light. This kingdom operates with its own expectations, rights, responsibilities, and ways, which are distinct from the world’s systems. It calls us to abandon our old selves and embrace the spiritually attuned identity that God designed for us.

This is not just an invitation; it is a deliberate call to separation. As 2 Corinthians 6:17 teaches:  “Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you.”

When we entered into a covenant with God, surrendering our lives to Him, we committed to being set apart from worldly systems, mindsets, and trends. This means reevaluating the music we listen to, the entertainment we consume, and the attitudes we maintain.

Living a Life of Transformation

Galatians 2:20 reminds us of the life we are now called to live:

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

So why do some born-again believers continue in the same patterns they followed before knowing Christ? Is that the transformed life Jesus died to give us?

Here are some practical ways to live a life set apart for Christ:

1. Evaluate Your Choices:

Ask yourself reflective questions such as:

-Would I feel comfortable listening to this with Christ beside me?

-Would I watch this if I knew Christ was present?

-Does this activity honor God and reflect my new identity in Him?

Since Christ is always with us, these questions can help us make decisions that honor His presence.

2. Replace Worldly Habits with Godly Ones:

-Swap secular music with worship or Christian music that uplifts your spirit.

-Choose wholesome entertainment that aligns with biblical values.

3. Surround Yourself with Kingdom Influences:

-Be intentional about your relationships. Spend time with people who encourage your spiritual growth.

-Join a small group or ministry to stay grounded in God’s Word.

4. Renew Your Mind Daily:

Romans 12:2 teaches us, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Spend time in God’s Word and prayer daily to allow the Holy Spirit to shape your thinking. Over time, you’ll notice your appetite for worldly things fading as your desire for God increases.

Honoring Christ in Everyday Choices

Christ took our place on the cross and died to give us life. In response, we are called to live for Him. This includes surrendering our own desires and ambitions to embrace His will.  Living set apart doesn’t mean we isolate ourselves from the world; instead, it means we live differently within it. We are called to be a light, reflecting Christ in our actions, words, and decisions.

Final Encouragement

Ask the Holy Spirit today to show you areas where you can align more closely with God’s kingdom. Commit to living a life that allows the Holy Spirit to be the transforming force that mounds you into His image. Remember, the life Christ died to give us is far better than anything the world can offer. Choose to honor Him in every decision, and you will experience the fullness of joy and peace that comes from living set apart for Him.

 Until next time.

See you along the God directed path.

Thanks for sharing, Sis. Nattayah! Is this the transformed life Jesus died to give me? Is a question that I must ask myself every day as a self-reflection.
