“My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments.”
Proverbs 3:1 KJV
I just “saw” this scripture, and that phrase, “let your heart keep my commandments,” spoke volumes to me. When God’s commandments are in our heart, they become a part of who we are. They’re no longer just a list of rules to follow, but love letters and personal instructions that draw us closer to Him, the One whom our soul loves. They shift from religious rituals to the very words our soul clings to. They become our life source.
When God’s instructions remain only on the pages of the Bible, we forget them soon after reading. But when they’re hidden in our hearts, they stay with us, they help us; as is echoed by the psalmist in Psalms 119:11.
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalms 119:11 KJV

The Word of God, tucked away in our hearts, equips us in times of need. When faced with temptation, a well-hidden verse often rises from within, giving us the strength to overcome. When we are down and discouraged, the Word stored in our hearts has a way of surfacing to lift our spirits. Whatever the circumstance, the Word of God imprinted on our hearts becomes a steady rock we can lean on.
Think of Joseph in Egypt. Far from home, wrongfully accused, and imprisoned, yet he stood firm in integrity. Why? Because the fear of God and His truth lived inside him. Or consider Jesus, who, when tempted in the wilderness, didn’t argue, He quoted Scripture. “It is written…” was His defense. The Word wasn’t just on His lips, it was rooted in His heart.
It’s not about memory, it’s about intimacy. When the word is in our hearts we carry Him with us. Jesus is the Word made flesh (John 1:14). When we let Scripture live in our hearts, we are letting Christ Himself shape us from the inside out. Abiding in His Word is a way of abiding in Him (John 15:7). His words become our guide, our guardrails, and our source of life.
At times, life hits hard. Temptation knocks. Disappointment weighs heavy. But when His Word is not just beside us, but inside us, it becomes alive. It speaks when we’re silent. It brings clarity when we’re confused. It reminds us who we are, and more importantly, whose we are.

Be Blessed.
Until next time, see you along the God-directed path.
