I am Chosen

He thinks that I have value and significance and therefore chose me for His purpose.

Ever felt foolish or weak or insignificant? Don’t worry, you have company, so have I. In fact, I have felt these emotions more times than I am willing to confess. But thank God for his grace and His mercies. In spite of all my insufficiencies, He still decided to choose me for His purpose. I have been foolish, but God. I have been weak, but God. I have felt insignificant, but God looked past me and saw my need for Him. He saw value and significance in me when I couldn’t.

When I think about being chosen, I am reminded of 1 Corinthians 1:27-29.   It says, But God has selected [for His purpose] the foolish things of the world to shame the wise [revealing their ignorance], and God has selected [for His purpose] the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong [revealing their frailty]. God has selected [for His purpose] the insignificant (base) things of the world, and the things that are despised and treated with contempt, [even] the things that are nothing, so that He might reduce to nothing the things that are. That no flesh should glory in his presence.

This scripture gives me hope. Even though I sometimes feel unwise, weak, and insignificant, He thinks that I have value and significance and therefore chose me for His purpose.

The consolation that I find in this scripture is that, in my strength and wisdom, I am bound to fail. I therefore cannot rely on myself. I must trust in the omnipotent, omniscient God whose strength is made perfect in my weakness. The one who assures me that I can do all things through Him.

I can hardly wrap my mind around the fact that God thought that I was the best person to accomplish a specific task that He had in mind. Despite my deficiencies, He chose me, me. That is absolutely mind-blowing because I know me, BUT I can take solace in the fact that He knows me better than I know myself.

Furthermore, He does not make mistakes. The fact that He selected me is a stamp of approval and declaration of His confidence that He can use me;  Mistake-prone, weak, and unwise me.  His selection is saying that if I allow Him to have preeminence in my life, He’ll use my life to give Him glory.

God’s vote of confidence gives me confidence that if He chose me, He has also equipped me with all I need to accomplish His plans. I am chosen and so are you.  Let us therefore trust in the Lord, and give Him liberty to use us to accomplish His purpose in our lives daily.

Be blessed.

See you along the God-directed path.
